What Does It Mean to Become a Living Sacrifice in the Kingdom of God?

Becoming a living sacrifice consists of two words with distinct meanings, but when combined, they teach us a powerful Kingdom principle. The term "living sacrifice" contains the words living and sacrifice. Living means alive, not dead, while sacrifice means to give up something for the sake of something greater or more valuable.

In the Kingdom of God, we give up our old selves and the life shaped by sin to live a life of righteousness. Surrendering our sinful lifestyles in exchange for a life of righteousness spares us from the destruction that awaits a life not laid down before the King.

Becoming a living sacrifice in the Kingdom of God means yielding your life to the sovereign rulership of Christ Jesus. Instead of looking to yourself as the source of direction, you begin to look to the Author and Finisher of your faith—Jesus—to guide your steps according to His perfect will.

Becoming a living sacrifice boils down to these questions:
Are you ready and willing to yield your life to the Kingship of Jesus?
Can Jesus govern your life according to the predestined will He has for you?
Can He guide your life in a way that leads to righteousness?
Can you submit to being sanctified and shaped into the image of Christ?
Can you surrender your desires and plans to fulfill His purpose for your life?
Can you look to Him for help instead of relying on yourself or others for guidance?
Are you willing to lose your life in the world so that you can find it in the Kingdom of God?

We are called to yield and gain.
We are called to lay down our lives in order to pick them up again in Christ Jesus.
We are called to live under the total rulership of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Prayer:

Lord, I thank You for Your unfailing and unwavering love for me.
Thank You for choosing me to inherit Your Kingdom in Christ before the foundations of the world.
Today, I choose to yield to Your sovereign rulership.
Be Lord and King over my life this day, and lead me into Your pastures.
I yield my life as a living sacrifice.
My heart is laid before You, Lord. Fulfill Your desires and intent in me and through me—for Your glory alone.
